Would entrepreneurs be as urgent about finding the best small business start up strategy in 2010 if the economic times were at an even keel?  I’d say probably not.  There are many advantages smart business owners can harvest from an economic time of turbulent change, and really that’s all we’re really talking about with current economic down turn in my opinion.

OK, I guess it’s actually a recession. And I’m won’t pretend that millions of people have been adversely affected during the last 3 years or so, it is what it is.  Successful small business ideas will still be successful and successful entrepreneurs will still be cashing in, the question is, are you going to be one of them?

I think it bears mentioning that when the Government steps in to solve a problem, maybe it’s because its a problem to them.  It seems to me that is about what it boils down to. Do you have any problems today you didn’t have 3 years ago in your business?  If you’ve built a solid business that’s scalable, lower sales shouldn’t be a problem, at least not a critical one, right?

If I’ve learned one thing about the last three years it is to own more than one business.  Owning several business is the best small business strategy in 2010 for a few simple reasons.  The best small businesses to start will vary each year and having more options to work with makes a ton of sense.  Many online business start ups are easily changed to pick up differnt income streams based on performance during the year.

First of all, I’ve learned that one business can feed another and a problem in one business can inspire a new product or service in another business.  My online business is largely dependent on one or two revenue streams, this bugs me.

I think I’ve been complacent the last few months especially. If your like me you likely have about a dozen business ideas for every business start up you have actually launched, even the best small business entrepreneurs get complacent from time to time, so don’t fret, but ask, “what am I doing about it now”?

One of the best small biz strategies has always been multiple streams of income, but owning entirely different businesses in different industries will be hot in 2010.  The fortune 500 companies went down this track years ago, but small business owners have lagged.

One advantage we have as small business entrepreneurs is that we can take small yet concentrated niche markets that are being under-served by these large companies and capitalize on our efforts.

Even to a new entrepreneur, starting a business for the first time, I’d say start a couple.

Starting a Business in 2010

Start 2010 with an overall plan including current businesses that are earning money, new business ideas to implement in 2010, and a couple new projects I haven’t tried. Obviously this business plan will be flexible, but it gives me a framework for productivity.  Eventually even I get sick of trying to convince myself that a business idea I have is great and will make big cash.  This year I’m gonna pull the trigger on these ideas and let the marketplace decide, after all its the only way to get paid.  Starting a blog this year is one of the best investment for 2010.

Another idea I will be implementing in 2010 is to start an online business that has a tangible product. I’ve never really done this as a separate business entity.  I’ve done some direct sales and some affiliate marketing, but never an actual product. I’m thinking private label, or drop ship, something of that sort. If you have any advice in this area, let me know via the comments.

Another 2010 business goal I have is to sell a website or domain name for over 10k.  I’m not sure how I’m gonna pull this off, but I’m working toward it.

Lastly, I’d like to create a user generated content site. I have a site in mind that I already own, it just takes the leg work putting it all together. I’m planning on using word press to pull this off. Again if you have any suggestions or experience in this let us know in the comments!  I started a forum that is connected to one of my websites, actually I started it and forgot about it for the most part, ever done that?  About 8 months later I logged back in for the second time ever to find some people had asked questions and actually had some good activity.  I thinks its probably important to manage a forum if I intend to make money with one.

I have marketed a successful home business opportunity on the Internet and learned what it take to develop profitable websites  over the last few years. How to Start a Home Based Business

The best advice I can give a person is to learn more about yourself.  Who are you? What do you like?  Growing spiritually, personally and professionally usually go hand in hand.  I recommend approaching it in the order I just listed.  I’ve tried to earn more money, and did… I’ve tried to have a good relationship with myself and others and have at times.  But when you focus on having a sound spiritual center, what ever faith, religion or creed that might be, I think you’ll find you have a better go of things.  Knowing what you stand for and who you are an want to be is valuable information when you look to start a home based business or even a new career for that matter. Give it some thought….

Personal development goes a long way in creating a successful home business.  Business ideas aren’t what is valuable, its the person who knows how to make them work.  Personal development programs and having a personal development plan is wise and will likely have a huge impact on your success in starting a business.  I offer a free ” Think and Grow Rich” book on this site, actually it is a think and grow rich ebook.

Many home based businesses on the internet will require some sort of lead generation, whether its for selling products or enrolling others. Finding a legitimate turnkey business you can start from home that actually works and makes you some extra money is an exciting idea.  Thousand are searching for new ways to make money from home in the recent economic times and many are looking for legitimate ways to make money online.

Legitimate turnkey business ideas are really quite easy to spot.  Having been online and making money using the Internet for a couple years now, I thought I would lend some advice on spotting a legitimate turnkey business.  I guess it really comes down to trust.  Since I think there are smart ways (other than trust) to discern a business opportunities legitimacy I’d thought I’d share a couple.  First off here is an article from the government on detecting deception 

One way I can determine if a business opportunity is legitimate is to ask a few simple questions and then answer them, usually on my own.

• How is money made in the turnkey business?
• Where do I fit in, why or how is it that I’m needed.
• What do I actually have to do in order to make money?
• What is the product or service?
• Is the perceived value of the product or service in line with the actual price?
• Is the business just an opportunity to invest in someone else’s marketing system or is the legitimate turnkey business truly viable?

Another thing I have the benefit of doing is researching an opportunities marketing system. I know of several legitimate home businesses that have been marketed on the Internet for several years.  While they are legit, I’ve determined that the long term viability of the business just wasn’t there.

Having your own products or services can be a huge advantage for the best home based business, but it just isn’t for everyone, that’s were these turnkey businesses come into play.  At the end of the the day, most of these ideas are an opportunity for you do excel at sales or marketing or a combination of the two.  Some affiliate relationships can be basically be top sales jobs  in direct sales.

I think affiliate opportunities can be the best ways to make money online.  I don’t think affiliate money making ideas are for everyone.  Lets face it there is a lot to learn about websites, traffic, advertising, conversions, and much more.  If the business opportunity your evaluating requires and investment ask yourself what the investment is for and then decide if its worth it to you. 

One thing that I’ve found very valuable with a turnkey business idea is the training and knowledge I was able to acquire very quickly.

If your looking for a legitimate turnkey business make sure you:

1. Are provided a system you understand.
2. Have an idea of the budget needed to start and maintain the business.
3. Are provided with training from the very beginning.
4. Can work with others or have open communication with someone to assist you.
5. Are genuinely interested in the products or services you’ll be selling.

Here goes: In order to create passive income in real estate you could buy 5 houses for $100,000 each, and rent them for $600 per month. This would net around $3,000 in passive income every month. (not really passive and you’d have to wait 20 years to pay down mortgage, but people DO this??WTF)

If you passively (through a blog) sell two of these e-books per day, you would have $3,000 per month in passive income!

An Atypical MBA? Whats That? This short post is about a “bright” business idea spawned from a non-traditional lifestyle and implement while earning an MBA an Stanford.  Social Preneur Sam Goldman, during, peace corp work in Africa, recognized a need and that became a seed for a successful small business idea.  I’ve included a video, and interview actually, with Sam as he answers a few questions about the start up D.lighting.

A take away here is that your everyday life can inspire great business ideas and implementing them in a team envirionment is probaly the most productive route to take.  Also I see a strong element networking, probably going hand in hand with the team environment concept.  Networking make teams possible. More networking can help the team and the business idea grow.

Making money buying, selling, or trading carbon credits is one of the top green investment predicted for 2010.

China is reportedly taking a serious look at (Wikepedia) carbon credits  as a green investment in 2010. A Chinese firm Sycamore Ventures also recently established a $1 billionChina Greenstar investment fund with an eye on receiving carbon credits. The Chinese government kicked in the first $100 million in funding. {Venturbeat.com}

India and the US also planned to invest hundreds of millions in  Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects in 2009.

So what does all that mean to the average investor, well besides the fact that the Carbon Credit industry can no longer be considered a fad, not much, as the information on starting a carbon credit related business is not exactly plentiful.  There are very few (we found one!) courses that can help individuals earn money with carbon credits or to purchase credits and resell them. Buying Carbon Credits.

Buying carbon credits involves contacting a carbon off setting firm, this is typically done by an eco-conscious company or individual.  Buy how do you invest in the carbon credit industry or start a carbon credit business? I don’t pretend to be an expert in carbon credits but I am good at locating credible information (actually my assistant is better) (thanks Jan!)and found a  resource online that guides people in buying, selling or investing in the carbon industry.  If you have interest in that you can learn more by visiting this website or to purchase a carbon credit course you can go here.

Selling Carbon Credits.

Selling the credits also will involve a carbon off setting firm. Apparently you can also calculate your own carbon foot print and buy your own carbon credits. Brokering carbon credits, being the middle man, is what many investors are opting to do. Orchestrating the flow of the carbon credit buying and selling can be a  lucrative venture. ( We are not experts. Contact your accountant or attorney, Don’t take us as the authority)

Trading Carbon Credits.

Carbon Credits… Can you make money And help the environment, really? I’ve been interested in Carbon Credits for several years now and more specifically how to make money with carbon credits.  I’m not as much interested in investing in carbon credits as I am in business ideas for carbon offsets and the industry as a whole.  The carbon industry seems to come and go as far as public interest and the media, but I’ve discovered it is a significant market and the loyal interest is growing.  If you have questions about carbon credit business ideas or ways to make money with carbon credits, ask them in the comments of this post. There seems to be a lot more interest for green business ideas the last few years and these green business start ups are starting to attract more cash.  If you are an investor and like green offerings, I’m developing an investing ideas website this year and will list more green business ideasn and green investing ideas in the next few months.  I did some research to satisfy a curiosity I had about carbon credits being a solid business idea. I had heard AL Gore talking about carbon credits as an innovative way to help the environment and wondered what he was talking about.  I hadn’t seen any real carbon credit business opportunities and wanted to figure out how to make money with carbon credits.  I’m not an entrepreneur who needs a business in box, per say, I wanted to find out how to start a carbon credit business that I could do from home or if it was even possible, I just wanted to be in the “game”.

Making money with carbon credits.

As far as making money with carbon credits, how it worked, and if it was something for me, I found this resource (How to make money with carbon credits) to be valuable, you can learn more by looking at the course… Carbon credits are just on example of green investments I looked into back in 2008. Learning how to start a business using carbon creditsmight be a wise idea in 2010, in my opinion. (I don’t give investing advice)  Brokering carbon credits is either going to fade faster than it came or it will be huge, and I’m guessing the later. Al Gore has literally years and millions wrapped up in this business, not only his money but a string of investors.

Learn More about how to make money with Carbon Credits or starting a carbon credit buisness by visiting various blogs and website you find online, I’ve learned there isn’t a lot of local information on Carbon investing or ways to make money with carbon credits.  Like I mentioned I did find a  Comprehensive Guide and make money in the industry, I recommend checking it out.  I believe it was 988 pages of content specifically focused on unique and accessible ways to make money in the carbon industry, but they all focus on carbon credits and carbon offsets, not re-forestation, and the more technical side of carbon investing.

How to Start a Carbon Credit Business.

As with any business you have to add value to make money, if your an entrepreneur, or have some common sense, this is nothing new.  Logic tells me if you can add value in this industry, you can earn money with carbon credits.  I’ve researched the idea enough to know who the buyers are, mostly eco-friendly professionals and companies who deem living responsibly toward the environment and intelligent proposition. The next piece to a good business idea is the sellers…. Maybe that’s were I will fit in rather than actually managing carbon offset projects, although this may be a creative way to buy large tracts of land in a leveraged way???? Think about that one. Green Investments, Carbon Credits gaining popularity.

Green home business ideas and green investments are more and more popular.  If your interested in helping the environment while making extra money carbon creditsmight be the way to go.  Many people associate green with difficult, old fashion, or expensive, it’s not any of the above.  As always people usually only get around to doing something when it benefits them.  We are humans that’s what we do.
