I love writing posts like this one right here because if your here and your looking to start making money from home with a blog, I’m about to save you around 2 years on your learning curve. I’ve been making money online for about 3 years with a small network of home business blogs and in the last year or so that income has grown into a significant income.  I’m sort of a “do it yourself” kind of guy and I don’t say that with a whole lot of pride when it comes to succeeding online.  There is so much useful information online and when I look back I could have had a much more profitable home business if I’d been willing to seek out those who were prepared and willing to help me right from the start.

One of the most successful home business ideas I’ve come across in the last 4 years has been money making blogs. I didn’t start out at an earth shattering pace but over time my blogs have really grown and started producing a solid significant income every month. While I’m not a six figure blogger by any means, the income I make from my blogs helps pay the bills and I enjoy it immensely. Do blogs really make money?… yes they do and if your looking to make money from home a blog is a great way to make money for a beginner. Here are some of the top tips I can offer folks who are using the Internet to start their own home business.  By the way, this isn’t theory I’ve learned these ideas first hand and I benefit directly (and monetarily) because of them.  Whether you have your own business idea or your looking for a model or concept to start your own home business, stick around and I’ll share a few things I’ve learned over the last four years.

First off you should consider developing an intelligent business plan when you start your business.  I can’t say I did this from the start, but I learned If I didn’t do this one thing, I’d be constantly wandering around in circle like I did my first 6 months online. Your own home biz plan needs to include these items at a minimum:

• Budget
• Time Commitment
• Marketing Strategy

Obviously this list will be longer, but I strongly recommend having a plan in place before starting you own home business because there are always other people, and priorities biding for your time, money and there’s always another “marketing product”. In case your wondering whether I’m just writing an article to update the blog, I’ll share what I did to learn that these are the top 3 things to have in place before you start your own home business.

The first six months I started online I worked every waking minute (that I wasn’t running my other traditional business) on my home business.  I spent over $1500 on Internet ads the first 30 days and almost spent $16,000 dollars on a website (didn’t actually spend anything)  And after sixty days I felt like I got my rear end kicked and was pretty frustrated. Save yourself the trouble and come up with your own plan.  Plans change, but you should have one to begin with when starting your own home business.

Home based business ideas or Internet based business ideas seem really cheap. It’s not like your buying real estate or a bunch of equipment or materials like you would in a traditional business.  But Listen, costs creep up and if you don’t have a budget and stick to it, you’ll wished you did at some point…it’s inevitable.  Keep a close tab on monthly recurring expenses.  This is one of the black holes of the Internet and a great way to bill your services online if you offer them.  Apparently some of us are to lazy to cancel a subscription for $10 bucks a month so we just keep on paying it because its easier.( *myself included)

If your serious about creating a successful home business you better budget your time as well.  I know for me this has been critical. If you’ve owned a traditional business you probably know the feeling of “the work is never done”…The issue with an online business is that it is so accessible and if you have Internet and a computer at home it may always feel like a good time to work. It’s important to have the support of your family and those around you most and I’ve found that the support can wane if I’m always working, so pick your work time and stick to it.

Most successful home business have a good plan that is followed. That said, it pays to stay flexible too.  I’ve increased earnings more than once by going down a path I hadn’t considered in the planning phases, so I think it makes sense to keep your eyes open for opportunity even in unsuspecting places.

I’ve found a few unique ways to stay flexible with my home business that allows me to implement new business ideas and test them on my website here.  Many times I can get a feel for the demand for a business idea, product or service just my writing about here on my website.  Having your own website if a must if your going to have your own home based biz.  The good thing about having your own website is that it has become very easy to start your own business website and it doesn’t cost much either. Let’s face it most folks, entrepreneurs included, don’t have a clue how to set up an effective marketing funnel.  It’s said that in order to make money you have to add value to the market place and this is on of the ways a business opportunities do that.

How do I know?  Because I’ve created a way to meet the person I’m most interested in working with.  The guy who is out looking to improve, who knows if their business is going to do well it will be because the make it happen.  Try finding someone like that with a google ad that says: I make a bunch of money and if you join me you’ll make money too, cause I’ll just…..show you my secrets.  Sure you’ll get leads, but results?

I personally like using a blog to generate leads because a person can get to know you personally.  For instance, anyone who spends anytime here knows my grammar stinks, my spelling sucks, and I write a lot of post that could be deemed filler. The also know I’ve been at this a while and get boat loads of traffic to this website and most of the traffic is very interested in starting a home based business that actually makes money.  Making money in a home based business or any business requires contribution and a contribution from a team of people is more effective because of the diversity in skill sets.  This brings me to the next top reason some people make money with their online business and others don’t…developing a team.

Developing a teamof people who work together but toward a common goal but independently is not easy. I’m the first to say it.  One of the reasons home business opportunities are so popular is that they give a team a point of reference, something to focus on.  Teams allow each person to increase their significance and add more value individually.

Home businesses are one of the best business ideas for people looking to spend under $500 dollars and this isn’t the only benefit of legitimate home based business.  Most successful business start ups are in one way or another connected to the service industry and the service industry usually means customers and employees and problems, problems, problems.  At the outset of most small businesses an entrepreneur waits anxiously to solve or deal with any problem that arises but with the lack of good systems in a majority of start ups, this willingness tends to wane.  What’s often left is a burnt out entrepreneur with nothing to show for the tremendous effort that running a traditional business takes…

This story isn’t theory, I’ve lived it and so have you or someone close to you.  We humans tend to think in terms of comparison most often and this phenomena keeps people struggling with their self imposed situation because it’s better than where they came from.  I think this is one example of when a person is looking or willing to look at something different.  Sound credible?

One of the most difficult things for me to believe or understand about the home business opportunity phenomena was that people with way less business experience, ambition, and common sense than me were making a ton of money in the home business industry and working 1/3 of what I HAD to work just to keep a traditional business in the commercial construction industry spinning…. You see that comparison thinking?

My first personal experience with a home business was back in 2006.  I actually started a business that was a little north of $500 bust close to it.  I remember thinking, more than anything else, is this going to work?

The idea was so far foreign to me and here is why.  Looking back, I’ve realized that I thought that making a ton of money in this business was going to be easy and I just don’t believe that making a ton of money is easy.  It’s an internal thing I’ve heard put about a dozen different ways, but the point is this, it wasn’t EASY!

The Confusion with Home Business Opportunities

For me the confusion that clouded my perspective of the business opportunity came from to sources:

• The Marketing Process and Information
• Conversations with Top Earners

First of the best home business opportunities have great marketing systems that deliver the company information in an accurate and streamlined way, so you don’t have to.  That said, I interpreted the business to be easy based on the simplicity of the systems and I was wrong.  For me it wasn’t easy, but as you’ve probably guessed, the folks who were making a ton of money and had been at it for several months or years were experiencing something completely different, for them it was a cake walk, and a literal fulfillment of their life long dreams.  It’s all about perspective, they had learned what they needed to learn and were doing what they needed to do in order to make their own business profitable and fun. I hadn’t….Yet.

The second source of confusion was the conversations I had with top earners in the home based business industry.  Again to them it was easy, they had a handle on cash flow, lead generation training new associates and the rest of the critical elements of a lucrative online business opportunity, and I hadn’t. I think it was a case of trust.  The folks I was looking to at the time for advice were so far ahead of me I couldn’t see what they were saying, I just didn’t relate.  I also adopted their goals as my own and was frustrated most of the time because of it.

I guess I wanted to acknowledge that I understand how it is very difficult for an intelligent person who is also successful to understand how you can find a home business opportunity to start for under $ 500 bucks and actually be earning 20k a month before the years end.  Quite frankly it sounds like a bunch of bullshit and that’s one of reasons I steer clear of it in my own marketing.  Just because something is true and you deem it to be motivating and inspiring, doesn’t mean the guy or gal you’re talking to will.  There is a tip if your building a home based business online.

Why People Think Home Businesses Are Scams

In case you’ve ever wondered why many people won’t look at home business ideas or even the best network marketing opportunities, it’s because they think they are scams.  One of the main reasons people label all home business opportunities scams is because of the ideas I just wrote about.  They don’t understand, it doesn’t make sense, so they need to call it something and the word “scam” pops up.  I have to confess thinking the same thing years ago.  Before I had any idea of what really went into being successful in a home business or the tremendous amount of hard work and excellence that went in to building the parent company and a quality line of products or services, I just figured they were all scams.

So what does that mean to you as someone looking to start a successful home business or maybe you’re already marketing and promoting a business opportunity?  Well it’s up to you what that means.  Here is how I approach it:

I Don’t.

I just don’t. I rely on attraction marketing and do it mostly online, in other words I don’t talk to people who don’t want to talk to me.  It is very rare that I meet with a “scam objection” and if I did, I would change my marketing. Let your marketing system sort, let it do its job.

Over the last several years I’ve created a successful home business and CreateLiberty.Com has been a solid contributing factor in that success.  Most successful small businesses have a few key elements that make them spin and for my home based business one of the best business ideas I’ve implemented was starting this site.

To be quite frank, I had absolutely no clue what I was going when I started the site.  I was primarily looking at green business ideas at the time and was hoping to find a few home based business ideas that were also in the green, Eco friendly, or sustainable “niche”…. I couldn’t find anything suitable at the time but I did get an up close look at all the successful businesses and business opportunities online and Man were they a ton of home business ideas online, probably more today.

People are finding that the Internet makes it possible to take small business ideas that were once accompanied by several hundred thousand dollars in start up capital, scale them down and create a successful home based business at a fraction of the cost.  I’d say this is the top reason starting a work at home based business makes sense, and the same one that has so many people becoming home based entrepreneurs.

Another thing I see more and more is people taking their own small business ideasand using the Internet to start the business.  In some cases they don’t even have a traditional store front. I’d say the most popular use online entrepreneurs are taking advantage of on the Internet is lead generation.

Are Home Based Businesses Green?

In many ways a home based business is one of the top unnoticed green business ideas.  It is absolutely amazing at the lack of waste I’ve experience with my more green home based business compared to a traditional business I ran for over 8 years.  Think about this:

• I don’t buy gas because I work at home.
• I don’t use hardly any paper at all…everything is digital.
• I have more time and eat better, supporting green food practices.
• I have no material needs for what I produce.
• I don’t have a lease and haven’t need to purchase a separate building.

Another reason it just makes sense to start a home based business is because its smart to have a plan B and most folks just don’t.  In some areas the economy has really put a strain on people having a plan B and another source of steady income is one of the best ideas to think about starting your own home business.  As I mentioned, home based business ideas are everywhere and they just keep getting more relevant everyday.  What happens if you start a turnkey type home business and something happens?  Let’s say the company fails or they don’t innovate and offer new products or services and over time the opportunity isn’t as good?  Well you find a new business to promote.  One of the things I help people with is learning how to “own” their marketing machine so they have a secure business that flexible.  I highly recommend anyone who starts a home business opportunity also start a website or blog. The best new business ideas all talk about providing everything you need to get your business up and rolling.  They talk about simple business systems that save time and allow any experience level to get their business started fast and earning money quickly, and they do, BUT…. If you don’t own your own marketing system your at the whim of the buisness opportunity your affiliated with and I don’t recommend it.  This one idea (by chance) saved me from a bad experience in the home business world a few years back.  The small network of sites I started back in 2007 are a profitable home business model themselves and I’m grateful I have them.  So again, start your own website or blog.  There is a ton of great information for free online about starting a blog or website.  You don’t have an excuse.  You can use the systems and tool provided they might be great, just be working at your own website too and brand yourself!  There is a ton of information on the subject on the Internet, look for personal branding methods on google.

If your looking at successful home business ideas and you haven’t been in a cave for the last 6 months you’ve probably seen the Trump Network Opportunity. I did some poking around and while I don’t usually blog about specific network marketing opportunities, I thought I’d do my best to let you know what the Trump Network is all about.

Well as a means of marketing and distributing the products Trump created a network marketing opportunity that launched in October of 2009.  The trump network is proving to be one of the best network marketing opportunities to join in 2010, or one of the most popular at least. I’ve done some looking into the compensation plan and it looks good.  It appears they have done their homework with regards to the FTC and the compensation plan is unique in that it has a “GPT” (get paid today) elements along with a hefty residual income plan.

Network marketing has long been one of the most popular means to entrepreneurship and the industry has create many millionaires and much wealth.  As with all things, being successful in network marketing and the Trump Network will take real work so keep that in mind if your looking into the trump network.

You might wonder, what is the trump network offering that any other network marketing opportunity isn’t.  Well for the first, and I’d have to say only time, in recent history a VERY well known person is personally branding a network marketing company.  This could have serious advantages for getting people who may not have otherwise joined an network marketing company to take another look. What is the trump network doing about assisting marketers who want to build a solid team of distributors?  Well, I’d say plenty.  The websites and teams I’ve evaluated online are very proactive about mentoring new marketing and helping seasoned marketer get up to speed on the Internet.
