This is a great video on entrepreneurship and why entrepreneurial business ideas are important.  It hits a great point on creating socially responsible  and sustainable components to make the world a better place to live.

I agree with the point that is made about a major difference being effident between self employment and being an entrepreneur.  I look at it this way: If you have to get up tomorrow and do it again, your self employed. If you die tomorrow and your enterprise continues to add value to its contributors lives and the lives of those who come in contact with it, its entrepreneurial.

Entrepreneurs drive change in the world we live in. Not all business owners, and we can all name a few, are entrepreneurs.  I’ve always known its not all about making money, but have difficulty explaining why I love implementing entrepreneurial ideas as much as I do. 

I think it comes down to impact.  When I was little I used to spin the back tire on my bike and look back to see the mark, entrepreneurialism is like that, its making a mark. Nurturing entrepreneurialism isn’t a sales job its about providing transparent communication to people young and old alike about what is possible. Being exposed to the idea that you could change the world and create a business that solves a social problem you loathe needs to happen intentionally and consistently starting at a young age… (in my opinion)

Even micro business concepts have added value in the marketplace and improved the lives of millions. From low cost start ups to huge transportation business ventures entrepreneurs are changing the world and changing it in the way the people desire.

I write mostly about home business ideas on this small business blog and this title came to mind earlier.  Home based business ideas that work for average people multiply daily, you may already know this if you been researching business ideas online.

So whats average anyway?

Well, I’d say average people have a job they dedicate a good amount of time to.  They have a decent place to live and reliable car to drive.  Statistics say the average person in the U.S. earns around 36k and works around 50.3 hours per week.

I guess another name for this post could have been home business ideas for people who have a real job or business ideas for employees or business ideas for people looking to earn 10k to 20k more per year without sacrificing every waking hour.

Here’s the deal, or proposition, if you will.  Why don’t you start a blog that integrates what you do for a living, what you would like to do for a living and what your doing to get there.  Another good point: GOOD POINT: If you were a blogger and did the work to gain credibility and a following on your blog don’t you think it might open some doors the next time you were looking for a job?  Think maybe you would even get offers? Probably…

I’m not saying that blogging in and of itself is a great home based business idea or a profitable one, though it could be, I’m saying its a start.  I love the idea of momentum when it comes to business and creating a successful business idea.  Just doing anything leads to something and sometimes something leads to significance. You agree?

Successful home businesses are not all that complicated and depending on your income goals a blog might be a great way to get started.  If your not into committing to a full fledged business, try committing to a small business blog about your area of expertise.

Another great area I write about from time to time is personal development.  Actually personal development was the key to me starting this blog.  I get thousands of visitors every month to this little small business blog and I just basically write my ideas about small business and success.

I earn money with my blog a couple different ways out or dozens of ways to earn money online.  I do some advertising sales, lead generation, and a couple other little things, oh and some affiliate product sales. 

For instance, right now I’m working on connecting with someone or a company that is interested in generating leads online.   I’ll find someone who is serious about generating leads for a business opportunity, a small business product or something of that sort and offer a marketing opportunity to them. Not sure what that will earn but I think adding contact forms to a few of my sites and generating a hundred or so leads a month is worth a nice little chunk of change. Its a rewarding home based business idea.

Average people are earning money online doing dozens of things from selling stuff on eBay to starting SEO consulting companies.  Web design is a great home business ideas you could start locally and expand later using the Internet.

Successful small business ideas are a vehicle, driven by a success minded person.  I really think success minded people become successful people. Its and intentional thing…. I think…

I think it can happen almost on accident if you have a genuine passion for the business your in, but sometimes its gonna take the will to persist and be consist and through slow or difficult times.  I think  a good business idea is the one that gets you excited and keeps you up at night.

Smart business ideas are all around us I think and they are often connected already to the live we are living.  I think people sometimes overlook the most obvious choices for a good small business start up.  I see a lot of “me too” businesses and entrepreneurs looking to tap into an existing market by competing on price alone.  Commoditization of just about every service and product driven business is possible and this mindset only ensures its early arrive.

I get questions each day about starting a home based business, they range from things like, ” How to start a business with no money” to ” how to be successful without a degree“, to  ” How to use the Internet to earn over 100k”… The list goes on really and I wanted to provide a few links to some of the articles we’ve written over the last while that hit on hot topics and advice on starting a home based business.

There are thousands of smart business ideas.  Regardless of who you are, you can find a side business to startthat will provide you with extra cash and offer a greater sense of fulfillment.  From green business ideas to web business ideas, the world is your oyster when it comes to finding a low cost business idea to get started on.

I have marketed a successful home business opportunity on the Internet and learned what it take to develop profitable websites  over the last few years. I’ve talked with many interesting people and been able to help a few.  I’ve talked to people who have lost 100k jobs and moms who just wanted to find the best work at home based business to start.

How to Start a Home Based Business

The best advice I can give a person is to learn more about yourself.  Who are you? What do you like?  Growing spiritually, personally and professionally usually go hand in hand.  I recommend approaching it in the order I just listed.  I’ve tried to earn more money, and did… I’ve tried to have a good relationship with myself and others and have at times.  But when you focus on having a sound spiritual center, what ever faith, religion or creed that might be, I think you’ll find you have a better go of things.  Knowing what you stand for and who you are an want to be is valuable information when you look to start a home based business or even a new career for that matter. Give it some thought….

Personal development goes a long way in creating a successful home business.  Business ideas aren’t what is valuable, its the person who knows how to make them work.  Personal development programs and having a personal development plan is wise and will likely have a huge impact on your success in starting a business.  I offer a free ” Think and Grow Rich” book on this site, actually it is a think and grow rich ebook.

Many home based businesses on the internet will require some sort of lead generation, whether its for selling products or enrolling others. Finding business opportuntiy seekers can be tough.  Many succesful home business entrepreneurs will buy home based business leads online  through lead vendors to help get their business started.  Starting a home based business that includes a good lead generation strategy will move you forward faster, think about that.

If your serious about starting a home based business and really succeeding then you will have to learn to generate your own leads or maybe develop a partnership with someone who can do it for you.

The best home based businessesare the ones that inspire you as an individual to do the work necessary for success.  It may sound like a no brain-er, but people often get poor advice on starting a home based business and are sold a lemon, not because the business model is lacking, but because there is not personal connection with the product or service your offering, think about it. People start businesses for all sorts of reasons and under widely varying circumstances.  I’ve posted this small business video on venture capital. Its actually a video interview with CEO of the company Adify.  He makes and interesting assertion toward the end of the video that deals more with small business philosophy and entrepreneurial attitude.

Not to spoil the move, but choosing to start a business that your geneuinely interested in is proven to be a key to long term success.  What makes a small business successful can be approached from a hundred different angles based in logic and passion, but I thought this was a universal key to success in business.

So there you have it, a good standard to choosing the best business to start is to find and idea that captivates you, one you think about in an interested and engaged way.  What business ideas or business start ups failed because they were to contrived and not “from true interest” enough?

I often wonder why the 95% failure rate of small business is (1) acceptable and (2) a reality?

I mean it really seems absurd, maybe the stats a bunch of bunk, not sure, I know I could, and have, cited many leading magazines and small business publications that almost “tout” the failure rate.

When I look in my community and in the circle of those I know that have started small businesses, almost always they were connected and saw the business idea as an extention, a natural one no less, of themselves.

Finding a legitimate turnkey business you can start from home that actually works and makes you some extra money is an exciting idea.  Thousand are searching for new ways to make money from home in the recent economic times and many are looking for legitimate ways to make money online.

Legitimate turnkey business ideas are really quite easy to spot.  Having been online and making money using the Internet for a couple years now, I thought I would lend some advice on spotting a legitimate turnkey business.  I guess it really comes down to trust.  Since I think there are smart ways (other than trust) to discern a business opportunities legitimacy I’d thought I’d share a couple.  First off here is an article from the government on detecting deception 

One way I can determine if a business opportunity is legitimate is to ask a few simple questions and then answer them, usually on my own.

• How is money made in the turnkey business?
• Where do I fit in, why or how is it that I’m needed.
• What do I actually have to do in order to make money?
• What is the product or service?
• Is the perceived value of the product or service in line with the actual price?
• Is the business just an opportunity to invest in someone else’s marketing system or is the legitimate turnkey business truly viable?

Another thing I have the benefit of doing is researching an opportunities marketing system. I know of several legitimate home businesses that have been marketed on the Internet for several years.  While they are legit, I’ve determined that the long term viability of the business just wasn’t there.

Having your own products or services can be a huge advantage for the best home based business, but it just isn’t for everyone, that’s were these turnkey businesses come into play.  At the end of the the day, most of these ideas are an opportunity for you do excel at sales or marketing or a combination of the two.  Some affiliate relationships can be basically be top sales jobs  in direct sales.

I think affiliate opportunities can be the best ways to make money online.  I don’t think affiliate money making ideas are for everyone.  Lets face it there is a lot to learn about websites, traffic, advertising, conversions, and much more.  If the business opportunity your evaluating requires and investment ask yourself what the investment is for and then decide if its worth it to you. 

One thing that I’ve found very valuable with a turnkey business idea is the training and knowledge I was able to acquire very quickly.

If your looking for a legitimate turnkey business make sure you:

1. Are provided a system you understand.
2. Have an idea of the budget needed to start and maintain the business.
3. Are provided with training from the very beginning.
4. Can work with others or have open communication with someone to assist you.
5. Are genuinely interested in the products or services you’ll be selling.

People choose to start a home based business for a variety of reasons, one of the top being convenience and flexibility.  Being able to set your own schedule can make life a whole lot different especially for those who have a family.  I want to talk about the often over looked aspects that make a home based business a smart choice for a new business start up.

Over the last ten years did you know that if you were a small business owner and purchased a vehicle, you could write the entire purchase amount off your earned income figure?  What does this mean in terms of tax advantages for a home based business owner?  Well, first off if the purchase price of the the vehicle puts you in  a different tax bracket then the savings could be several thousands.  At bear minimum your not paying taxes on the purchase price of the vehicle.  Lets say you pay 20% income tax, for easy math, and lets say the automobile cost 30k well in this case you would would save 6 thousand dollars in income tax, not bad?

There are other tax benefits, ask an accountant about the advantages of starting a home based business. Another major difference I actually “feel” is the lower expenses associated with a home based business. You know, we don’t think about, but having a job is expensive. Not sure what you line of work is, but it seems each career option has an accompanying wardrobe expectation. I worked in the commercial construction industry and I know first hand, the clothing expenses that come along with it. Making money from home with a home based business doesn’t require me to dress a certain way for certain weather or certain safety considerations.

I think most people get hung up on choosing a good home based business to start. Most look at what they know, or what they think the “can” do. While its logical, it might not be the best business to start, just because you can or know how. It comes down to adding value and providing an in demand product or service. What matters is what other people, your customers, want. I like online businesses, I think they make great home based business start ups. I like the lack of actual customers that my websites have. Its low stress for me and I enjoy doing it. I’ve learned a number of different things in order to earn steady income on the Internet. And It seems there is always something new to learn.

You might keep in mind, your business probably won’t look like you thought it would in a year or two, they never do. A business is kinda like a child, they grow and look different from year to year. I have learned to respond to what my business tell me, I try not to be to static and I always look for new opportunity. Another thing I keep in mind when evaluating a good home based business to start is the passive element. I like passive and Its a great way to leverage my time and work I do online. I have a few websites that earn money via advertising, I write informative articles on topics that people are interested in and people buy ads on those web pages, I have several web pages that earn me 3 or 4 bucks day after day.

I look at my web sites and individual online business ideas, or as separate businesses for that matter. I guess we are all different and we all are attracted to different business ideas. There are many turnkey home based business opportunities that allow people with little to no past business experience to start a home based business without all the risks associated with a traditional business idea.

The costs of starting a home based business are much lower than a traditional small business idea and this limits risk greatly. With a home based business there usually won’t be property to buy, a major expense of a traditional businesses, there are also fewer and less costly other expenses. Many home business ideas don’t really require employees, another major expense, they don’t require massive start up capital or large capital outlays for equipment and other items needed for a traditional small business.

It seems a lot of people get hung up on doing it perfect and never make it out of the planning stages. Its also easy to loose focus of the bottom line, the reason for starting a business in the first place… Making Money!

If your business isn’t making money, its a hobby. Its great to have hobbies, and you can have more, when your making money from home with a home business that is running in a profitable way. Every decision you make has to pass the acid test, will this make you money or not? Operating a profitable home based business is challenging, but you can do it. I like to use income goals, businesses respond well to goal oriented thinking. Profitability is important, almost the most important thing to operating a successful home business. The first has to be cash flow.

Cash flow is key, I’ve heard it said “Cash Is King”… In business, it really is. It doesn’t matter if your operating at 150% profitability, if the money doesn’t flow in such a way as to pay for the monthly fixed expenses, your screwed. Get cash flow figured out and then go to work on the profit margins. Most people go at it in the opposite order, I think this it the main contributor to the 95% failure rate of 5yrs and younger small businesses.

This is the simplest way to communicate the utter “silliness” of  people not “getting” the information age, and why you should take action today!!

Here goes: In order to create passive income in real estate you could buy 5 houses for $100,000 each, and rent them for $600 per month. This would net around $3,000 in passive income every month. (not really passive and you’d have to wait 20 years to pay down mortgage, but people DO this??WTF)

Now, Information age…You create an ebook (learn how below) that solves a relevant problem, save someone money or significant time. Sell the book for $50 bucks.

If you passively (through a blog) sell two of these e-books per day, you would have $3,000 per month in passive income!

Get it?

Making an E-book is much easier than buying a house.
